Jr. Bassmaster State Champions Draper and Flores

On June 12th the Illinois Bass Nation hosted the 2016 Jr. Bassmaster State Championship on Lake Springfield. The Jr. Bassmasters are anglers from the age of 11 to 13. They are members of a Jr. Bassmaster club and through the club qualify to compete at the State Championship.

The Jr. Bassmasters launched at 5:30 am and were filled with anticipation at the possibility of making to the National Championship in August at Lake Carroll in Tennessee. The top 2 anglers from the State Championship will make up the Illinois Team that will compete at the National event.

The bite at Lake Springfield was definitely on. All of the Jr. Bassmasters brought fish to the scale. The anglers in the hot seats changed a few times during the weigh in and when it was over Dylan Draper held first place with 9.26 lbs, in second place was Luis Flores with 8.41 lbs. and rounding out the top 3 was Tyler Kalebic with 6.70 lbs. Dylan also had the Big Bass of the tournament at 2.36 lbs.

The top 2 anglers, Dylan and Luis, will now compete at the Jr. Bassmaster National Championship. Congratulations to both of you for a job well done.

Dylan and Luis, along with Tyler, are all members of the “Off the Hook” Jr. Bassmaster club and are quickly becoming great anglers. They all brought a 5 fish limit to the scale.

Along with their fellow club members, the Illinois BASS Nation would like to wish Dylan and Luis good luck at the Nationals.

IBN to host High School Tournament Series

The IBN has established a tournament series for the High Schools all across the state!

From East Fork lake to Pool 13 the IBN will be hosting 6 High School tournaments across the state to provide an opportunity for 2 High School fishing team anglers to compete in the B.A.S.S. Northern Divisional.

This year we are inviting the winning team of each of the 6 high school tournaments to our IBN Jr. Bassmaster State Qualifier for the chance to compete with our State Divisional team. The top 2 anglers from our State Qualifier tournament will move on to fish with the IBFN State Team at the B.A.S.S. Nation Northern Divisional. This year the B.A.S.S. Northern Divisional will be held on Francis Case Resev. in South Dakota.

Each year the IBN sends 2 Jr. Bassmasters to fish as co-anglers with the IBN state team to the B.A.S.S. Nation Northern Divisional Tournament. They will be fishing alongside one of the best 12 adult anglers in the state. At the Divisional, the Jr. Bassmasters will be competing for the opportunity to go to the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship. At this event they can win a fully loaded Triton Bass boat along with college scholarships. (For the adult anglers it is the first step to the super bowl of fishing, The Bassmaster Classic.)

Along with the opportunity to compete in our State Qualifier and the chance to go to the B.A.S.S. Northern Divisional expenses paid and then on to the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship. The IBN will provide trophies for the first, second and third place teams at each High School Tournament and a trophy for the winning school to display proudly. High School Coaches, this is exactly what you need to get your teams to that next level.
